Ayurveda is a sister science to Yoga. It involves lifestyle and dietary suggestions based on your unique body make up or doshas. The ancient people who developed Ayurveda were keen observers of nature and of the 5 elements. By learning what doshas are dominant in your constitution and by understanding the qualities that balance them, we can prevent illnesses from taking hold or at least lessen their severity. Prevention is key! If you would like to learn more, consider attending a workshop or retreat where I offer an interesting subject in-depth, often with some delicious foods to try.
Try this dosha quiz at Banyan Botanicals to get an idea what doshas are dominant in your constitution.
Ayurveda has lots of different protocols and it's hard to know what to do right now. Take it slow and make it simple. Start with eating with the seasons. Each season has foods that are optimal for the elements that are active at that time. However, each of us is unique and it may be a bit of trial and error to see what works. There are some general principles that can be very helpful for most everyone to start.
Seasonal cleanses happen in the spring and fall. It is a 10 day process that gently detoxes the body and gets us ready for the next season. It balances the doshas and is so important for prevention of disease and helps us have vibrant health!
This is a 10 day process. It can be modified to be longer or shorter. It consists of 3 pre-cleanse days and 2 post-cleanse days and the 5 days in the middle is when we eat a mono-diet of kitchari which is a stew of rice and mung beans, ghee (or coconut oil), digestive spices and cooked vegetables. The mono-diet allows the body and sense to rest and work on releasing the toxins built up in the last season.
Additional Lifestyle Practices: -Daily oil massage to detox the skin and body -Putting screens away at 8pm -Moderate exercise only
A time for you to reset habits that may not be serving you
A time to rest and take care of yourself in a nourishing way
A time to detox and restore yourself physically and mentally
But in the end your efforts will pay off in vibrant health!!
To begin, I recommend starting with a package of three sessions:
I'll send you some questionnaires to fill out in advance. During our first meeting, we'll explore your health goals and I'll assess your current state of well-being from an Ayurvedic perspective.
In our second session, I'll share a customized treatment plan designed to support your unique doshic constitution, current imbalances, and personal goals. This may include lifestyle and dietary suggestions to help balance your doshas and digestive fire (agni). I might also recommend herbal remedies if appropriate. You're always free to decide what feels right for you—there's no pressure to follow every recommendation.
About a month later, we'll meet again to see how you're doing. We'll evaluate what's working, what isn't, and make any necessary adjustments to your protocol.
All three sessions, including the treatment plan and support, are available as a package for $150.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule your first appointment—I'd love to support you on your wellness journey.
